Turanga Restoration Project

Turanga Restoration Project – Volunteers Wanted! 🌿

A group of local volunteers has kicked off the Turanga Restoration Project – a long-term mission to remove invasive weeds in Whitford working in with Predator Free Whitford, with support from Auckland Council and the Franklin Local Board. Initially we are working to restore native biodiversity along the beautiful Potts Road Walkway / Bridle Trail in Whitford.

We’re calling on our community to get involved and help us protect and regenerate this special place. It’s also a chance to learn from others in the community how to control pest plants in a hands-on way!

What We’re Doing:

We’re working to eliminate invasive pest plants like: Gorse, privet, woolly nightshade, moth plant, radiata pine seedlings, cotoneaster, honeysuckle, and jasmine.

Why It Matters:

Space is cleared for native plants Improves soil health and long-term stability Supports biodiversity and climate resilience Restores food and habitat for native wildlife
