Whakaupoko Landcare Guest Speaker evening – Bumble Bees, Bees and more

This talk is on Monday 12th April from 7.00p.m. at St Brides Church, Findlay Rd.

Dr. Gunjan Gera, Production and R&D Team Leader from Waiuku-based business Zonda Beneficials will be talking to us about bumble bees and their cool use as workers in NZ greenhouses.  Dr. Gunjan will also discuss IPM (Integrated Pest Management) in greenhouses and outdoor crops, a technique that allows food producers to use far less agrichemicals in our food production by using beneficial insects to fight insect pests.

There will also be a discussion about honeybees and bee hives, and Roelf Schreuder will share some of his experiences with keeping bee hives on his own property.

Tea, coffee and chocolate biscuits will be available.

Locals Tanya & Chris may also be there to update us on how their kereru chick is getting on in its nest just outside their house.

The event is finished.
