Whakaupoko Landcare – Pathway to Carbon Zero Evening
Come along to another Whakaupoko Landcare Community Evening to hear from two local speakers on the issue of climate change and how we can support Aotearoa’s transition towards Carbon Zero.
When: Monday, Nov 4th, 7.00 – 8.30 pm
Where: St Brides Church Community Hall
Guest Speakers:
- Local Genelle Palmer – Counties Energy
Genelle will be discussing sustainability at Counties Energy as they move towards Carbon Zero. In collaboration with Whakaupoko Landcare and Franklin Active Trails, Counties Energy have played an important role in supporting the revitalization of Te Ara O Puuriri in Pukekohe. This effort involves tree planting, weed and pest control, and developing trails in an area that had been long overlooked.
- Local Pete Watts – Indufor (leading Worldwide Forestry Consultants)
Pete is involved in interesting work around the globe looking at the challenge of how to prevent climate change. From NZ’s ETS scheme to global carbon subsidies, many countries are increasingly recognizing the urgent need for action. In particular, Pete will discuss a recent case study of how Guyana is meeting the challenge (see below for background information).
